The Principal
Based in Victoria, B.C., Sharlene Smith APR, FCPRS, LM is a nationally accredited public relations practitioner educated in public relations and business administration. She established CommPlan Canada in 1997 after a 20-year career in communications and management in senior positions in B.C. and Saskatchewan.
Specializing in strategic planning and communication management services, Sharlene has a reputation for combining strategic thinking with the practical ability to get things done. In addition to her consulting practice, Sharlene is a founding member of both the University of Victoria and Royal Roads University’s public relations programs where she taught hundreds of public relations practitioners from across Canada.
Sharlene also has extensive governance experience; having held leadership positions with national, provincial and local organizations. She has served on the boards of ten public and non-profit organizations and been the lead director on five of them.
Sharlene is a member of the Institute of Corporate Directors, an Honorary Governor of the Victoria Foundation, and a life member of the Canadian Public Relations Society. She is a member of the Society’s College of Fellows and a recipient of the Society’s Lamp of Service – Canada’s most coveted public relations honor for an individual member.
